YLE Cambridge 2021

YLE Cambridge 2021

Every year, we here at Lion and Lion Educational Group host the Cambridge Children’s
English Certification Exam (YLE). Under the guidance and watchful eye of teacher Pamela, the
Center’s Director of English Academic Affairs, and the hard work of this year’s participants, the
Centre was able to achieve an incredibly impressive 100% passing rate. Aside from that, more than
50% of the participants were able to achieve the perfect score of 15 shields. A truly impressive feat
from all that were involved.

Cambridge Children’s English Certification (YLE) is an English proficiency exam designed
and held by the “Cambridge University’s Language Assessment and Testing Centre”. Annually, an
average of 310,000 candidates from more than 55 countries around the world take this
international certification test. The test is divided into three levels: Starters, Movers and Flyers,
and tests the 4 core language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening). The test is divided
into 3 sections: Listening, Reading and Writing and Speaking. The results of each section is
reported using shields as an indication of how well a candidate has done in each section. A
maximum of five shields are available per section and a maximum of 15 are available in total. If a
candidate achieves 10 shields or more on the test, they will be eligible to proceed to the next
level. This is important as passing all 3 levels is equivalent to passing the National English Test
(GEPT).

Participating in these tests are strictly not mandatory, but doing so offer some significant
benefits:
1. Participating in these tests widens the vocabulary of the participant and greatly improves
their writing skills.
2. As these tests encourage the students to actively participate and speak in class, taking the
tests significantly helps in boosting the confidence of the students.
3. YLE is an assessment test that is recognized internationally. Therefore, taking the test will
allow the students to experience how tests are conducted in other countries and give the
students a broader outlook.
4. YLE tests utilizes a comprehensive and detailed grading system that allows the students to
identify their weaknesses and offer suggestions on how to rectify them. In turn, this will
help greatly in improving their weak areas.

*If you are interested, Lion and Lion opens YLE review courses every February and March. The
courses will be held every Saturday and is an intensive training course that lasts 8 to 12 weeks.
